What is Cholesterol?

Cholesterol is a type of fat. It creates new cells in our body. However, too much cholesterol in blood increases the chances of heart problems. So, make sure you in-take an appropriate level of cholesterol. Dietary cholesterol is found only in animal fats like dairy products. The impact of high cholesterol varies from individual to individual. Some people can consume a high cholesterol diet without affecting their blood cholesterol levels. What is a Spread?

Spreads are made from an emulsion of vegetable fats and water. They are low in Saturated Fats and high in Unsaturated Fats compared to normal butter. Traditionally, spreads and margarines have been manufactured using the process of hydrogenation. However, in the recent years due to technological improvements, hydrogenation is no longer required to solidify the product. This has greatly helped in eliminating the problem of Trans Fatty Acids.

What are Trans Fatty Acids?

Trans Fatty Acids are found in varied amounts in various animal products such as butter, beef, pork, etc. TFAs (Trans Fatty Acids) are also found in Hydrogenated Fats and are known to increase the blood cholesterol level. They also tend to raise LDL (Low Density Lipoprotein), "bad" cholesterol and lower HDL (High Density Lipoprotein) "good" cholesterol.

Hydrogenated fats contain harmful trans-fatty acids, which increase blood cholesterol levels. Most spreads contain hydrogenated fats, which increase the risk of blood cholesterol. There are only a few spreads, in the world that do not contain any hydrogenated fats, and Nutralite is one of them.

What are Polyunsaturates and how do they help?
